5Very durable!  Nov 16, 2006
By Liz E.
I've had this converter for my Lamy Safari - in perpetual use - for nine years, and it's still going strong. Doesn't leak or anything, and there's something nice about refilling your own pen. If you've got a Lamy, I'd definitely recommend getting this to go with it.

5well-designed for making the switch to bottled ink (no more catridges!)  Sep 13, 2006
By K. Yasuhara
I have a Lamy Safari and a Lamy Joy (both in the colored, plastic versions---not clear or aluminum). I got this converter so I could eliminate the waste of disposable, plastic cartridges and use the bottled ink of my choice in my pens. This converter has good capacity (refill frequency varies, of course, with ink, nib, paper, and writing habits) and a long knob with two flats that's easy to twist for refilling. The body is clear and makes it easy to see how much ink is left through the windows in the pen body of the Safari and Joy. With practice, I can now fill the converter with one hand, holding the converter body between my pinky and ring fingers and twist the plunger knob with my thumb and pointer finger. This leaves my other hand free to tip the ink bottle, if necessary. I've been using one of these converters for years, and they seem to last fine. It's a simple device, but I can think of worse designs.

If you don't have the same pens as I do, see the Lamy site to see if the Z24 works with your Lamy.

5Opinions and advice on Lamy refill converters  Oct 28, 2007
By Natural Historian "L_Roque"
I love this product; I use it with quick-drying Rapidograph ink (meant for film, but I use it for writing in my journal because others do not dry fast enough). It's easy to clean (I use Rapido-ease).

I did not buy mine here, however. While other reviews revealed obscene shipping charges; I started a transaction to see for myself. Since shipping charges weren't straightforward and wouldn't be revealed until the end (after giving them all my information), I canceled it. Yes, I could have e-mailed them, however with a product so inexpensive I decided to trust other reviewers over waiting for a response from the company. Later that day, I found a local art supply store and was able to purchase the converter for less than five dollars. Thus, my recommendation is to check out local stores, other websites, and/or e-mail this Amazon supplier before purchasing here.

5Never had a piston-style ink refiller before  Nov 03, 2009
By Les C. Rogers
As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Lamy Safari is a great pen. And this converter is a necessary acquisition if one wants to use a bottled ink (like the very excellent Noodlers, say). The converter works great, no problems at all, but I thought I'd just mention a tip. When drawing in (sucking up) the ink, turn the knob fairly slowly, and the reservoir will fill up much more completely. I just learned this today. On previous "fast" refills, I ended up with about a quarter-inch of air space in the cartridge. This morning, I pondered the fact that there was just a pin-hole in the nib - designed, of course, to carefully regulate the flow of ink onto the paper. It's that same pin-hole that one is using when drawing ink into the cartridge so hence the best suction is going to be slower to provide enough time for the ink to pull through that pin-hole. How slow is slow? Well, I didn't time myself, but I think it still only took fifteen to twenty seconds or so to slowly draw the ink in. And it looked completely full this time, no visible air space at all.

5I wish it came it six-packs.  Oct 23, 2010

Okay, while I would really like to own a Montblanc special edition amazing fountain pen, I just like my money more than the pen.

On the other hand, there are a lot of affordable pens. The problem with most of them is that they take cartridges, which limits your options. Let's face it, once you get bitten by the fountain pen bug, it's only going to get worse. So I did some research. And I found a great pen, the Lamy line. They are affordable. You can swap nibs. and for less than five bucks, you can rock some seriously amazing and beautiful inks in your Lamy pen..

I won't explain how to use it. Here is what you need to know:

* Buy more than one. In fact buy one for every color you want to be able to use in your pen(s). You are going to want more, so buy them now and save on shipping.
* Did I mention they are easy to use? This is not Grandpa's pen. It ain't rocket science. Can you get the twist-top off of a domestic beer? Then you can do this.
* Buy some good inks. Top of the line are the Iroshizuku inks. My personal favorite is yama-budo, or wild grapes. Diamine and Sailor are lower cost options.
* Get some paper. You are going to want to write. Moleskine or Rhodia notebooks are great.
* Enjoy the tactile pleasure that only a great pen filled with great ink writing on great paper can bring. To paraphrase Tony the Tiger, "Its Great!"
