Great prices on used games Aug 01, 2010 Got this game for around half price, as it was used.I called local video stores, and they wanted about $45 dollars for a used game, when the new price was a little over $50. Ordered from Amazon instead. Came looking new, and played great. This was one of two used games purchased-both looked new, and played just fine. Another great deal from Amazon.

Not what was Promised Jul 31, 2010 When MAG was announced for the PS3, it promised large scale battles and tactical gameplay.
Unfortunately Zipper Interactives latest PS3 exclusives only fulfills one of these promises and it isn't tacitical gameplay.
Like every other first person shooter on the market today, rushing blindly into combat is passed down into MAG. The lack of people with proper Mics and headsets on the PS3 make communicating with teamates almost impossible besides a few generic phrases your character can yell. The people who are brave enough to try to muster up some form of tacitics have their pleas fall upon deaf ears as their squad mates will do whatever they please. This lack in communication creates a run-of-the mill FPS with little place for tactics. The game though isn't solely responsible for this lack of strategy but is also created by the players who play it. There is a high sense of self that is evident in the game even from the beginning. Players only worry about themselves which causes them to abandon their squads and fight alone. This creates a gametype where short term instant rewards are much more favored than a long term and higher success. The game is highly favored towards a common assault class which doesn't allow for sniping, team support or any other specialty class to work well and functionably. To wrap up the gameplay part of this review MAG plays like a general FPS that turns into a blitzkrieg just like every other game on the market today.
Another glaring flaw about this game is its maps and gametypes. MAG is deceiving in the fact that it states it has 256 player games. These games only happen on special occassions and most of the time you will be stuck playing in the 64 player games. The game types are fairly generic and don't offer anything to exciting. The maps are an even bigger joke with only 3 maps per game type which quickly grow stale and boring.
One of the most frustrating things about this game is its weapons damage. With a standard sniper rifle it takes three shots to the torso just to incapacitate an enemy. It takes about 5 shots with a standard assault rifle to incapacitate someone which given the firing rates of the assault rifles provided is about 2 seconds give or take. Which class do you think people will prefer, the pathetic power and accuracy of the sniper rifles or quick firing and very powerful damage of the assault rifles. The knife however is a real piece of work. Like many other games it is a one hit kill which is fine but it's range is ridiculously long. It isn't unusual to get knifed from someone 7 feet away and be killed and no, I'm not exagerating the length there.
The last negative thing to talk about are the factions and concept of the game as a whole. There are three factions but they are pathetically inbalanced. They comete against eachother in something called the shadow war which makes up the whole game. The shadow war never acually comes into play at all and no clear victor is ever decided in this war so no one ever wins anything really except minor battles that don't determine anything.
There are some good things about MAG though. The game does boast impressive visuals and sound quality. The maps are very detailed and large with many new areas to attack from. The skills provided in the game do allow you to pick what perks you want and don't want. Probably the best thing about this game though is that the factions really do make you feel like part of an army with real training and barracks.
To conclude MAG is just a rough prototype of greater things that will come in the future. For the time being, while playable it isn't anything special. So for the time being play something else or get used to being knifed from behind.

Great Game, Not for Children Jul 28, 2010 MAG is a great game that has so many features to draw in just about every gamer. If you aren't into killing people but you like the team atmosphere then you can focus your skills on being an engineer and working to keep everything running tip top. If you prefer you can be a full time medic, running around healing people and resuscitating them. And for the ultimate first person shooter, the class warfare adds another level of complexity to the game. As it is a first person shooter and mostly adults playing with adult language I definitely would not recommend this for children under 16. This is a hard game to get bored with and with large maps, missions complexity you should be pleasantly surprised at how amazing this game is.
Planes, tanks and guns, oh my! Jul 18, 2010 I think that, in many ways, what a person does for a living heavily influences what they do in their downtime. If your job involves a lot of stress - like being a police officer or a mother of eight pyromaniac five year olds or something - when you get some free time, you're just going to want to do something relaxing, like crochet, or power-sitting. Conversely, if you do something extremely unexciting for a living, like absolutely nothing, chances are you'll be more drawn to a chaotic, stressful game like MAG.
MAG, in case you have just arrived here from several years in the past and from a foreign planet and are deaf and only just now, this very second, learned how to read, is a first-person-shooter by Zipper (the team behind SOCOM). It's strictly online, and has been the focus of much publicity not just because of the developer's pedigree (which is pretty good), but because it touted character growth and customization, persistent scores and bonuses for the armies, and, most importantly, up to 256 concurrent players in a match.
MAG Does a lot of things right - it's a solid shooter, and has shown that having a large number of players doesn't have to choke up the gameplay. Unfortunately, it didn't show that more players means more fun. Bugs, imbalances, and a lack of content for the price make what could have been an excellent game just decent, but that is changing fast with all the new content available to be purchased.
7.0 Presentation: Everything is clearcut and functional, though navigating in-game menus with the shoulder buttons is tedious.
6.5 Graphics: It runs 256 players smoothly, but at the cost of graphical detail. Texture pop-up at middle range.
8.0 Sound: Although the music is hokey and the death cries are annoying, the THX sound is crisp and extremely solid.
7.5 Gameplay: Solid shooting mechanics and interesting maps are hampered by bugs and too many hazards on larger game modes.
6.5 Lasting Appeal: You can feasibly reach the level cap within a week or two, though more casual players will likely quit in frustration before then.
PS3 MAG Jul 15, 2010 I love this game it is so good i had to get use to the 1st person mode because i played socom navy seals for so many years.Once i got the hang of it i really loved it to have so many people playing at one time and you have 3 groups to join it is just AWESOME.
