Kids love this - lots of fun Aug 29, 2010 This is a great water table. My kids love it (ages 1 and 3). They drive matchbox size tractors and bulldozers around the sand area to build roads and come up with lots of different ways to enjoy the sand and water. The umbrella is a great addition for the shade.
I rated 3 for durability because we've had it for 2 years and the center is beginning to droop. This causes the the water to run into the sand side before the rest of the water side fills up. It bugs me, but my kids don't seem to notice or care. I might just put a support of some kind under the center of the table to level it back out. Would be nice if this was built in from the get-go. Overall a great product that provides hours of outdoor imaginative play, and other than the drooping issue it has withstood 2 years of play and I expect it last several more.
worth the money Aug 25, 2010 Glad we went with this model, it is larger than the others, more durable yet mobile and easy to move around, even with the sand and water in it (need two people)
I just love this item, and so does my grandson, you won't be dissapointed!
Perfect Outdoor Toy! May 28, 2010 This is a great outdoor toy that has survived the hot Texas sun for the last 2 years and still looks brand new. We bought it for my daughter's 3rd birthday and she still plays with it constantly at the age of almost 5. The reason I picked this over other sand tables and sand boxes on the market was because of the cover that keeps unwanted dirt, bugs and cats out, the umbrella, the water feature and the fact that my daughter stays fairly clean while playing with it. I would highly recommend this toy.
Sturdy little table Apr 23, 2010 This table has been great fun for our three daughters! We mostly use it as a water table because at their ages (3 and two at 2) they would rather play with water than sand. The sand was fun for a while but when the younger ones started pouring too much water into big sister's sand projects it was anarchy.
The only problem I have had is that SOMEhow water has leaked to the hollow inside of the table so that even after you drain the water you can hear it sloshing around when you move it - and it drips slowly from one end. Don't ask me how the water got in there.
It was easy to assemble (use a drill and not a screwdriver) and the umbrella is great and it's height adjustable. I wish it were more difficult to adjust the height though because if you have innovative children they will soon figure out how to lower it - and then it comes crashing down on other childrens' heads!
I would also like to find out how to get a replacement umbrella because after two summers at high elevation it is pretty brittle now and has torn in a few places. Overall our kids have really enjoyed this and it was worth it!
very successful summer toy Apr 15, 2010 After much internet research, I went with this sand and water play table over several others, and I have been very happy with my choice. However, I do not have anything to compare to as this is our first (and hopefully last) sand/ water purchase. My daughter is 21 months.
Pros -
1) it is off the ground, which keeps it (and the child) a bit cleaner. Also safer with little ones, as they can't fall into it and drown. The pattern of roads through the water side also ensure they can't get their heads underwater.
2) The lid fits on well, and is secure even in storms.
3) the water side has a plug and is easy to drain. We've had no leaks, and we didn't even screw the legs on, just popped them in.
4) the umbrella is great, the height can be adjusted and it keeps her mostly in the shade all day.
5) the little enclosed toys are a perfect size for the sand and the water.
6) a perfect size for smaller children such as mine, though I suspect older children would find it a bit too small. Several children can be around it, we have had 4 year old visitors who loved it, and we have managed up to 4 children easily.
Cons
1) the sand and water WILL mix, and you will spend a lot of time emptying the water side and refilling it with clean water.
2) need to store the umbrella - not a big deal but my daughter likes to wave the detachable pole around like a sword if I leave it under the table.
3) there is a tendency to tip the sand onto the floor, I guess if you are 2 and you have a shovelful of sand, you want to experiment with gravity, but it is messy!
4) pretty low table for an adult
Things that might help
1) matchbox cars fit the roads perfectly. Little kids soft tonka toys (those cute soft plastic ones with the faces) do not. This was a bit upsetting to my daughter as she wanted to make the cars go on the roads, and it took us a day or two to sort it out.
2) the sand side takes about half a 50lb bag of playsand. You could fill it higher, but then you will lose more over the edge. We just top it up as needed. You can buy a bag at Home Dept for 6 dollars.
3) normal beach toys are a little too big for the table, eg buckets. We use the digging toys (shovel, rake, castle mold) from the "Green Toys Sand Set" Green Toys Sand Play Set but the bucket is too big really. Other beach toys from Toys R Us, etc are way to big.
4) get a small stool for the adult play partner - it makes the whole experience much more fun for you!
5) we use a spare silicon food loop Fusionbrands The Food Loop 15" Silicone Trussing Tool, Set of 4, Pink to hold the umbrella and pole together when folded. This has made it harder for my daughter to wave it around and keeps the umbrella neatly.
