Doesn't Work Sep 26, 2008
By mother22 I purchased this product for my front-loading washer; even though I keep the door wide open when not in use, after a year the washer had developed a mildewy smell that transferred to the clean laundry. I tried using Affresh three times, and this product does not work! My washing machine actually smelled WORSE after using it! I finally poured about a cup bleach into the drum of the machine and filled the bleach dispenser tray full in order to get rid of the smell. The bleach worked fairly well but not completely. I don't like to use bleach in my machine because it is corrosive to metal (our drum is stainless steal) and can break down the rubber in the gasket and seals. I finally purchased a box of Borax for a few dollars at the grocery store. Borax is not corrosive and does not damage clothing fibers. In addition to absorbing odor, it is a natural fungicide and kills the mildew and mold that caused the odor in the washer. I sprinkled a half cup of Borax on top of a load of towels and then put the normal amount of detergent in the tray and ran a normal wash cycle. Presto--the smell is gone! My washing machine smells great, and my dishcloths and towels no longer develop a funky odor after using them. I plan to use Borax regularly to keep my laundry and washing machine smelling fresh. It's not a very glamorous solution, but it's cheap and works great! Way better than wasting my money on pricey Affresh tablets that don't help.

tablets do work Sep 11, 2009
By S. D. These tablets do work very well. Others who have not had any luck with them may have the same problem I had originally before I was told about this product by my repairman. Since I have an extended service policy on my set, I called to have the smell checked out. The service tech. opened the front of the washer and found several baby socks stuck in the drain trap. Always wondered where those disappeared to. Any small items must be washed in a net-bag to keep them from slipping between the barrel and the gasket at the front of the barrel (vibrating during cycles can allow small items to be squeezed through). The socks smelled horrible! If this is the reason for the smell, then bleach would be a temporary cure.

Mom of 7 Dec 15, 2008
By S. J. Stuart My Bosch Washer and Dryer (HE) have been the best investment by far, but one mishap of leaving a wet load inside the washer prior to a week vacation, left a strong odor that would not go away. I was prepared to use all three tablets of the Affresh, but it only required one. The odor is completely gone and I am VERY happy with this product. It did go against my thrifty nature to run an empty hot-water load, but that is what the directions read and it is a key component to successfully getting rid of the odor.

Still stinky after the whole bag! :( Sep 21, 2008
By A. Marcroft I got this because our washer stinks and it is causing the clothes to stink too. I did a search and found this product and "Smelly Washer" and found that I was able to buy Affresh at Lowe's by my house so I could use it the same day. I followed the directions exactly and ended up using all three (yes, that is all you get in an $8 packet) in one day. The directions said something like, if it's still smelly, do it again, and again, and again... I wrote to the company and they didn't even have the decency to write back! I will NEVER buy Affresh again because I think that it made the smell worse (it must have loosened the smelly stuff?!) Eventually I broke down and bought Smelly Washer from smellywasher.com and it helped much more and is a much more economic price! Don't waste your money on this!

Seems to work....Just fine Jun 14, 2009

These tablets are recommended for the Maytag Top-Load washer that we recently bought. Our old tub washer did not use the tablets, but used a lot more water per wash. Our washer determines when it wants a tablet based on some internal use calculator and turns on a light. We select the cycle and run one through. It seems like $3.00 per tablet is expensive, but we use about one every five weeks and our washer operates just fine. The clothes are fresh and clean and there is no foul odor inside the tub. Because the machine has a specific cycle for the clean, it seems to even get the drain line and other components clean. I do think this product is important for the longevity of the machine.
