Buy this before you waste your money on the cheap ones Dec 16, 2005
By David A. Cornelson I have a bunch of kids that are constantly drawing pictures with pencils and crayons. We've tried every retail pencil/crayon sharpener around and they've all been broken or died. We do have an electronic sharpener that works fairly well, but it's not really appropriate for small children and we've already broken one of those too.
The Ranger sharpener is perfect though. It's sturdy, mounts to the wall, and can handle any size pencil or crayon you have (except for the really big big crayons). It's just so solid that you feel like you're back in school.
Highly recommended.

Strong sharperner and looks great! Oct 05, 2008
By J. Cline I have six school aged children and I own my own business. I was so annoyed to hear the kids ask on a daily basis if anybody knew where the pencil sharpener was. Sometimes we were successful in finding it and sometimes we were not. We all know what happens when you can't find the pencil sharpener, right? We usually initiate mom's kitchen knife set. Not cool and dangerous I might add, so I decided to spring for a wall mounted pencil sharpener, except every local office supply had poorly made and ugly units. I found the Boston 55 and instantly knew this one was built to withstand the abuse of a family as big as mind. When I pulled it out of the box, I knew this was the one. This sharpener gets a daily dose of multiple size pencils the occasional crayon and the funny kid who thinks he will make arrows for his homemade bow. It is a nice pencil sharpener and is mounted on the side of an open end cabinet in the kitchen. It does not look like a cheap toy but a nice quality compliment for the decor. The unit is easy to clean and clear jams. If I ever need another pencil sharpener, this one gets my vote and I paid nearly $50 for it a year ago. Now, if I can only find wall mounted toe nail clippers I'll be set. I rate this sharpener at 5 stars.

Manufacturing defects had to return Jul 19, 2006
By Leslie J. Studer Redesigned for manufacture in china this sharpener no longer offers long life and worry free use. Out of the box crank was on crooked, screws holding it together were stripped. The eight hole front pencil guiede is flimsy. The design will not stand up to class room use. Look else where.

Rugged, Sharpens quickly BUT Off-center point Oct 11, 2009
By John Parker Very nice heavy duty feel - quite rugged, Sharpens very quickly, better than most electric sharpeners AND takes different diameter pencils.
BUT, sharpens to an off-center point. That was a very significant disappointment in an otherwise super product.
Some pencils sharpen to an unusable state as the point is so off-center. Kids who tend to not keep the pencil perpendicular to the sharpener when inserting the pencil may have a hard time getting a usable point.
What a contrast between how rugged it is and how great the sharpening heads are generally with how the pencil actually gets sharpened.
I would bet some of these will sharpen off center like mine does & some not - it's a manufacturing consistency issue I would guess.

Teacher Apr 24, 2009
By M. Boeve I am a teacher and have gone through a lot of pencil sharpeners in my classroom...manual and electric...and they were all JUNK. I was looking for and industrial strength pencil sharpener that would sharpen all kinds of pencils (even the cheap ones manufactured today), withstand the use of 120 kids a day, and last a long, long time. Well, I think I found it. I LOVE THIS PENCIL SHARPENER! I have only had it a few weeks, but I think that it will stand the test of time. And the word is out...kids from other classrooms come and use MY pencil sharpener now because the one in their room stinks! It may be expensive, but you get what you pay for!
